Do You Know What Cleaning Dishes Sounds Like?

12/2024

The main goal was an experimental exploration of sounds from our daily routines. By listening to the soundscape of everyday life—whether it’s the rhythmic clatter of dishes, the hum of commuting, or the rustle of grocery bags—I aim to reveal a new perspective on the ordinary.

I decided to focus on four themes: grocery shopping, traveling home, going for a walk, and having an evening drink. For each activity, I recorded sounds on my phone, resulting in an audio fragment and a small booklet. Rather than striving for beauty, I want to expose the reality within routine—whether that’s monotony, dissonance, or unexpected harmony. The goal isn’t to tell a positive story, but to capture the essence of daily life in an honest way.

People can subscribe to the booklets and their accompanying audio fragments to find inspiration in the most everyday things. To maintain as unbiased a view as possible, I chose a minimalist design. The booklet opens with an explanation, followed by images and a short questionnaire. The noise within the images creates additional distance, inviting the reader to reflect more deeply on these activities.
